Yes, You Can Use MediSave for Your Baby's Delivery
Here's something every expecting parent should know: your MediSave account can pay for a lot of your maternity costs. From antenatal checkups to the actual delivery and post-natal care, MediSave covers both public and private hospital deliveries.
Even better — you can tap into your spouse's MediSave too. So if one of you has a higher balance, you can use that instead.
How Much Can You Withdraw for Delivery?
The withdrawal limits are based on how long you stay in hospital:
• Normal delivery (vaginal): $750 per day, up to $2,250 for a 3-night stay
• Caesarean section: $1,150 per day, up to $3,450 for a 3-night stay
These limits apply per pregnancy. If your hospital bill is higher (which it often is, especially at private hospitals), you'll need to pay the difference in cash. That's why it helps to compare delivery packages early.
Before and After Delivery — What Else MediSave Covers
MediSave isn't just for the big day. You can also claim:
• Antenatal checkups, scans, and tests — up to $900 per pregnancy (claimed at delivery)
• Assisted conception (IVF) — up to $6,000 per cycle, with a lifetime cap of $15,000
• Post-natal follow-ups for mum and baby within 42 days of delivery
So keep all your receipts from those pregnancy checkups. They add up.
How to Claim — It's Easier Than You Think
At public hospitals like KKH, NUH, and SGH, the MediSave claim is handled automatically when you're discharged. Just bring your NRIC and the hospital does the paperwork.
At private hospitals, your obstetrician or the hospital's billing team will submit the claim for you. You'll just need to sign a MediSave authorisation form.
One thing to remember: the claim is deducted straight from your MediSave balance. If your bill is higher than what MediSave covers, you pay the rest in cash.
