Baby Bonus Cash Gift — Here Is What You Get
Every Singaporean newborn comes with a cash gift from the government. (This guide covers amounts for Singapore Citizens — Permanent Resident families receive different entitlements.) It's paid in instalments over 18 months, and the amount depends on whether this is your first, second, or third+ child.
First child — $11,000 total:
• At birth: $9,000
• At 6 months: $1,000
• At 12 months: $1,000
Second child — $13,000 total:
• At birth: $11,000
• At 18 months: $2,000
Third and subsequent children — $14,000 total:
• At birth: $12,000
• At 18 months: $2,000
The money is deposited into your bank account automatically after you register your child's birth. No extra paperwork needed.
CDA First Step Grant — $5,000, No Application Needed
On top of the cash gift, every Singaporean baby automatically gets a $5,000 CDA First Step Grant deposited into their Child Development Account (CDA). This happens within weeks of birth registration — you don't need to apply for it.
The CDA is a special savings account that can only be used for approved child development expenses: preschool fees, healthcare, therapy, and assistive devices at approved institutions. Think of it as a dedicated pot of money for your child's early years.
CDA Co-Savings — Get Your Savings Matched Dollar for Dollar
Here's where it gets really good. The government matches whatever you put into your child's CDA, dollar for dollar, up to these limits:
• 1st child: up to $4,000 matching
• 2nd child: up to $9,000 matching
• 3rd child: up to $9,000 matching
• 4th+ child: up to $15,000 matching
So if you save $4,000 for your first child, the government adds another $4,000. Plus the $5,000 First Step Grant — that's $13,000 in total for childcare expenses. It's one of the best savings schemes for parents in Singapore.
Step-Up Grants for Larger Families
If you have three or more children, the government gives you extra support. Your third child gets a $1,000 Step-Up Cash Gift on top of the regular Baby Bonus. And as you saw above, the CDA matching caps are higher for third and fourth children.
This is the government's way of saying: we see the effort that goes into raising a bigger family, and we want to help.
